Maskepetoon
by Brian Appleby

This piece is named in honor of the famous leader of the Plains Cree of Western Canada in the late nineteenth century.

The notes used will all be very familiar to young and members, and their attention can be devoted to playing very rhythmically, with an ear to good intonation.

An optional lesson on the Dorian mode, which is used throughout the piece, is included.

The Percussion 1 part is challenging, but should be within the ability of your keen young percussionist. It is intended to be played on a drum set, using the bass drum and three tom toms.
