| Rondos by Brian Appleby
All of these pieces have an "A" section intended to be played by everyone, and a series of 2-part lines labeled "B", "C", "D", etc. A rondo is created by alternating the "A" section played by everyone, with the various other letters played by small groups.
My students really enjoy getting together with a friend or a small group and putting together one of the lines. I have "tryouts", listing all the lines on the board and erasing them as they are awarded to groups. Sometimes we have to play the whole thing twice to accommodate all the groups that want to be featured.
Rondo Primo uses only the first five notes introduced in the first four Lessons of SoundStart. 'This is always a big hit at my first beginner concert in October
Return of the Rondo follows the same format as Rondo Primo, but uses all the notes and rhythms introduced in the ten lessons of SoundStart.
Rondo 3 continues the tradition established by the first two in the series, but uses the Concert B flat scale as the basis for all the lines. It is playable after Lesson 14 of the ApRo Intermediate Band Method. | |
